Character Information
*Character Name: Ventus, nickname Ven
*Character Canon: Kingdom Hearts
*Age: 16 (no set age)
*Race: Human
*Timeline/Pull Point: Some time after Dream Drop Distance, the latest KH game
*History: His history is here.
*Personality: He's cheerful generally to a fault, although occasionally some worry manages to drive that cheerfulness away. It isn't gone for long however, and soon he's back to his normal, happy self. An example of this is when Vanitas first tells Ventus that "Terra is going to disappear." This worries Ven, which sends him chasing after Terra, but even though he's worried he's still cheerful when he meets new people and gets to know them on other worlds. This is evident in the fact that he often helps people when he travels to other worlds. He is also very curious; he wants to know a little of everything and loves to talk. He tends to get really excited about new things and loves learning about them. He's very kind and sweet to people, especially to those he doesn't know. He easily makes friends, although Terra and Aqua will always hold a special place in his heart as his best friends. When he meets Isa and Lea in the game, he has a sparring match and becomes friends with them, although the encounter is brief. He's always looking to make new friends, so any chance he gets, he tries to befriend someone.
He isn't able to cope with betrayal easily and it hurts him deeply. This is evident by how he deals with his former mentor. He could possibly forgive such a betrayal but it would take time and his trust would need to be earned back. He is very brave, willing to risk his life and his heart in order to fight and protect his friends. Again, this is shown in the game when he literally sacrifices himself for his friends. Still, he has a childish side and while he doesn't mind being spoiled by Terra and Aqua, he dislikes that he isn't allowed to follow them everywhere, even if they're doing it to keep him safe. Whenever Aqua or Terra tell him to go home or to stay behind, he is obviously displeased. He doesn't mind being the youngest, though, in fact enjoying it as it means he gets special attention from the two of them. He doesn't get angry often but when he does, it's like a switch. He can flip it and rage at someone and then suddenly turn it off so he can deal with any situation that might be at hand. Once that situation is over, however, the switch will be flipped again.
*Powers/Abilities: Speed and agility like you wouldn't believe. He had a Keyblade, a sword in the shape of a key made up from his heart, which can change forms. He had several attacks exclusive to him, basically meaning that only he could use. One such attack was Pulse Bomb, which meant energy balls were charged at the tip of the keyblade and hitting people constantly with small explosions. Semi-powerful but only if it hits. Semi-accurate aiming. Cyclone is an attack which makes Ven faster and deals out damage with wind-based attacks by spinning. The finishing move consists of him spinning and attacking many attackers quickly, like a cyclone. Low power, semi-accurate. Vanish turns the user invisible for a time, as well as a few friends if he chooses. Time limited to a few minutes. Sleep puts people to sleep for short periods of time. Defensive move only, can't be used as an attack. Faith is an attack that involves orbs of light that home in on an enemy similar to a missile. Low power, very accurate. Time Splicer freezes time for a short period of time. Time limited to a few minutes. This is for defense only and cannot be used as an attack anymore. Tornado Strike/Tornado attack with whirlwinds. Inaccurate and low power. Salvation is an attack where columns of light erupt continuously around him, damaging his enemies while simultaneously healing himself. Low power. And Wingblade is his ultimate attack. He is surrounded by six blades made out of light in the formation of wings around and can grab any of them out of mid-air. Low power. Finally, he can use Cure, which can heal him or someone else a little bit but it can't fix broken bones or deadly injuries. He can also use Cura, a stronger version of Cure which starts the healing process on broken bones but doesn't cure them completely. Again, he can't fix deadly injuries. (I summarized what the attacks are but left the links for my reference. Also, I’ve dampened his powers already, although if you feel more cuts should be made, I’d like to keep Pulse Bomb, Cyclone and Wingblade.)
*Inventory: Keyblade. A sword-like weapon that he fights with. Although I'd like to have him still be able to summon it, I'll probably take away most of the special attacks it can do. I'd prefer that Wingblade still work although I understand if you don't want it to. Some armor. When he touches the armor on his left side, it magically covers all of him. He has to touch the left side though, it can't do it automatically. Also, it acts as normal armor, deflecting blows but it doesn't heal and it can't deflect everything. Healing potions. Pretty self explanatory.
*Starting Polarity: Nexus Prime, because I think he's probably the closest in personality to Ven and therefore, they won't clash too much. Which is good because his last two mentors tried to kill him, so he's a little wary of authority figures.
If AU, how does your character differ from canon?: Ventus is finally awake and has regained his heart. Everything up to this point in canon is the same but as he isn't awake yet, I guess that's the major difference?
Writing Samples
*First Person Sample: Prompt: Your best friend/ally/accomplice/favorite minion has gone missing, and you suspect they're on the planet somewhere. Make a broadcast that indicates your need for their return, and describes this individual to help others identify them.
Heeeeey. Anyone there? [ taps on the screen a couple of times ] Hey, how do I work this thing? Am I doing it right? I don't think this is working… Hey, if I get a broken thingy, is someone going to replace it? Yes? [ hopeful tone--waits a few seconds ] No? [ defeated tone ]
Seriously, I have no idea how to work this. It's not like I'm dumb or anything, okay? I just--what is this? And how come it doesn't come with instructions or a number to call or something? I could use some help here! [ waits for someone to reply--no reply comes ] Someone~ Come on, please! [ fiddling with it now ] Help me figure this ou--oh hey. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Let's see… Oh. Oops. I put it on mute by accident. [ sheepish grin ] Sorry about that! Hello? Oh, hey. Finally, I seem to have gotten someone. Hi there. I'm Ventus but you can call me Ven. Um, my friends are missing. Can you help me?
[ waits for a response ] Really? That’s great. What? Oh, right. Terra, my best friend, is a big man. He’s tall, really tall, and has short brown hair which he spikes up in the middle like a mohawk in a full head of hair. Let’s see, what else? [ listens for a minute ] Clothes? Right. Uh, he uh usually wears a black shirt and red suspenders attached to his tan pants. If you see him, can you tell me? Oh and Aqua! The girl--I mean the woman. Her name is Aqua. She has short blue hair and she's about average height. She's really pretty. She wears this black and blue corset that has a high neck. She wears a lavender criss-cross strap over it held together by a strange pin that's the sign of a Keyblade Master. It looks kind of like a heart and a cross merged together. She wears an open front blue and white skirt and black shorts. If you see her, if you see either of them, can you please tell me?
*Third Person Sample: Prompt: An inexpensive time; how you had fun on a budget.
There was one past time Ventus enjoyed more than anything else. He loved eating with Terra and Aqua. The problem was, he didn't have a whole lot of munny most of the time. He wanted to hang out with them longer, to eat and chat and just generally have a good time together. How could he do that without spending a whole lot of munny? He searched for a solution. They could go to the park, but then what would they eat? After a long day of training with Master Eraqus, they wanted to relax, not play in the park. So the park was out, scratched from the list. They probably wouldn't want to go to an arcade or for karaoke either. He didn't want to have them over to his place, because it was a mess and that just didn't seem right. He wondered if he could afford going with them to a small coffee shop. It would certainly be cheaper than going to an actual restaurant. He didn't like coffee though.
No to the candy store; that was too juvenile. Same with the toy store; much too childish. He didn't want to go to a book store or a library with them. It was too quiet and boring. Maybe they could go for a walk together? Just walking around sounded like fun to him but he wasn't sure what they would think about it. Sure, he trained just as hard as Terra and Aqua and they trained together but that didn't mean they has the same levels of energy. He'd learned that early on, when he was exhausted after his first day of training and Terra was wired. Sometimes he would have boundless energy after training and Aqua was half-asleep on her feet. Other times, he would feel sore and Terra would want to spar with him. No, asking them to walk was a 50-50 chance of failure. Feeling defeated, Ven collapsed on a bench, tired of trying to come up with ideas. It was then he noticed Scrooge Duck selling ice cream bars. He smiled, an idea forming in his mind.
The next day, he couldn't wait for training to be over. He threw everything into training, and predictably, almost wore himself completely out. He was exhausted by the time the session was over, practically dead on his feet. Terra insisted that he go home and get some rest and Aqua was quick to agree with him. No! That would ruin his plans completely. He protested feebly but he was too tired to put up a good show of resistance. Finally, they reached a compromise. He would lay down on a bench if they could go somewhere. He led them over to the bench he'd collapsed on the day before. He gestured to Scrooge Duck with a smile and the sight of him selling sea salt ice cream bars brought answering smiles to his friends' faces. That day was the best they'd spent together, eating ice cream and chatting quietly while they rested on the bench.
Final Notes: I think that's everything! Tell me if I need to make any revisions!
